Spending Categorisation queries

Here are the common questions for the categories in Spending in the mobile app:

Why can't I re-categorise a pending transaction in Spending within the mobile app?

You will not be able to categorise pending transactions until they are fully cleared in your account.

I have received a refund from a retailer/merchant, where will that transaction be categorised?

Any credit transaction applied to your account will automatically be categorised under Income. You can go into the Income category and re-categorise that transaction into any other desired category. The transaction will not display with an indication that it is a credit as opposed to a debit, but the category total will take this into account.

Why doesn't the Transfer category show in Spending in the mobile app?

The Transfers category will not show alongside the summary of your categories, but you can re-categorise transactions as a Transfer.

We are working on showing you this in your summary in a future update.

What are the Spending categories that my transactions will be split into in the mobile app?

We have automatically aligned your transactions for you within Spending to these categories:

  • Bills
  • Home & Garden
  • Eating Out
  • Transport
  • Shopping
  • Entertainment
  • Health & Beauty
  • Groceries
  • Income
  • Transfers
  • Other

You cannot change the names of the categories. However you can move any transactions from one category to another whenever you need to.

You will also get the option to select the category for just that transaction or all and future transactions from that merchant.

Can one transaction be split across two or more different categories?

No. Each individual transaction can only be applied to one category.

Can I change the names of existing categories or add new categories in Spending in the mobile app?

You cannot change the names of existing categories or add new categories.

You can move any transactions from one category to another whenever you want.

How do I move a transaction from one category to another in Spending in the mobile app?

To move transactions between categories, follow these instructions:

  1. In Spending, select the transaction you wish to amend.
  2. Select 'Change category'
  3. Select the category you wish that Transaction to sit in.
  4. Select the back icon.

Why aren't my transactions included in the correct categories using Spending in the Mobile App?

If you spot some transactions in Spending in the mobile app which are either in the wrong category or not in a category at all, you can simply select the transaction and then select which category you wish it to be included in.

By re-categorising transactions into the categories you want them to show up in, Spending will learn from you to become more personal over time.

Why can't I see a transaction in the category they expected it to be?

If you can't see a transaction in the category you expect you should check in the other categories. If the transaction is in one of these it can be re-categorised to the expected one by clicking on it and selecting the correct category.

Why are transactions made on my Curve card or American Express card displaying in the Other category in Spending?

Transactions made using a Curve or American Express card will automatically be categorised into Other.

Once the transaction has been fully posted you can recategorise this to whichever category you like.
